SATHISH RAO APPALANAIDU APPOINTED AS YSS BOARD DIRECTOR

Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS) / Students Volunteer Foundation (100% owned by Ministry of Higher Education) is pleased to announce the new addition on our Board of Trustees/Board of Directors, Mr Sathish Rao s/o Appalanaidu.

Previously, an alumni of YSS Students Volunteer Mission to Kapit, Sarawak 2014 and YSS-ASEAN Students Volunteer Mission to Champasak, Lao PDR 2016, we welcome our young Board Member!

Born and bred from an estate in Bagan Datoh, Perak, Mr Sathish Rao is truly an outstanding 25-year old man as he continuously build a streak of outstanding achievements. Last year, this young man who is a Tunku Scholar, graduated from Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris (UPSI) with CGPA of 3.93 and bagged a gold medal for Pingat Tunku Award by Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation (YTAR). He was the first Indian in Malaysia to win the gold medal of Pingat Tunku. Later on, he was awarded the Outstanding Achievement Award by National Malaysian Indian Congress Women’s Wing. As a First-Class Graduate at the 17th UPSI Convocation, Mr. Sathish Rao won the Royal Gold Education Medal and was the recipient of Anugerah Pelajaran DiRaja (Royal Education Award). During the 17th UPSI Convocation too, he was the first Indian UPSI graduate who was made Valedictorian and gave his Speech before the Chancellor of UPSI, Her Royal Highness Raja Permaisuri Perak Darul Ridzuan, Tuanku Zara Salim.

Mr Sathish Rao is also a natural born leader as proven from his wide experiences in sitting on councils or committees of a number of clubs and societies in campus. He was previously the Treasurer for UPSI’s Students’ Representative Council, President of UPSI’s Taekwondo Course, Advisor of the Indian Cultural Society and Tamil Language Society, and many more. An all-rounder, his remarkable record speaks for itself when this young man was also actively involved in extra curricular activities as an athlete as well as a dancer at UPSI. He also played the role as committee member for numerous events in the campus as well as a facilitator for many community engagement programmes all over the country. Mr Sathish Rao has held the position as the Head of Students Affairs Bureau, Malaysian Indian Congress -National Youth Wing @ Putera MIC.

His passion for community engagement is obvious as he continuously serves as a volunteer for deserving communities. As YSS alumni, Mr Sathish Rao volunteered in many community outreach activities and flood relief missions. He has also led a number of volunteer efforts such as Fund Raising Campaign for Chennai, India Flood Relief Mission, Old Folks Home in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur, Charity Programmes in Ipoh, Pasir Panjang Laut Village Lumut, and Save Gaza, Palestine. Mr Sathish Rao has also conducted a motivational programme at Henry Gurney School (Juvenile Detention School) in Melaka under UPSI’s Moral Education Society.

Despite his active participation in many areas as a student, Mr Sathish Rao has also published a world-class research journal entitled “Moral Judgement among students with disciplinary problems: The usage of “Sociomoral Reflection Measure-Short Form Objective”(SRM-SFO)”. It was published in the international journal of Sultan Idris Education University, Malaysia, Journal of Research, Policy & Practice of Teachers & Teacher Education (JRPPTTE) 5(2).

Currently pursuing a master’s degree, Master of Education (Educational Psychology) at UPSI, Mr Sathish Rao aims to pursue his Doctorate in Educational Psychology at a top league university in the world based on his remarkable national Pingat Tunku Gold Medal achievement. He also aspires to become a professional researcher and an academician specialising in educational discipline.
