YSS_Sabah 2017: YSS Student Volunteers Went Into Mission Locations Via Locomotive Trains and MINDEF Trucks

YSS – International Students Volunteer Mission to Beaufort, Sipitang and Nabawan, Sabah 2017, officially begins with the second Flag-Off ceremony officiated by Datuk Johnson Tee, Deputy Speaker of Sabah State Legislative Assembly ended gloriously in Galeri Canselori, Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) on Saturday, 08th July.

Early next day, on Sunday morning, 89 YSS Student Volunteers together with #YSSDreamTeam, went off to six mission locations, with two villages in each of Beaufort, Nabawan and Sipitang district respectively. Student Volunteers teams located in Beaufort district; Kampung Saliwangan and Kampung Bambangan, excitingly rode the locomotive train of Sabah state from Tanjung Aru to Beaufort. The journey took around two hours via train.

Another group of Student Volunteers which are allocated at Sipitang and Nabawan districts, all were excitingly boasting grinning ear to ear, with a gush of adrenaline rush, rode 4×4 trucks owned by Ministry of Defence, Malaysia. Big thanks to YB Dato’ Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein for lending us the assets and supporting our YSS Students Volunteer Mission!

As soon as the arrival of Student Volunteers at their respective mission locations, Opening Ceremony was held as to welcome the arrival of our volunteers by the villagers. Dancers of the villages are all wrapped in beautifully beaded traditional cultural piece of Sabah. All volunteers are in awe of the amazing traditional dance performances.

Have a great time contributing to society through creative initiatives and projects based on YSS six clusters which are Education, Community Development, Medical and Health, Agribio and Environment, ICT and Crisis and Disaster Management all measured based on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
