To develop Malaysia as a hub for student volunteers, producing volunteer leaders at a global stage become a crucial turning point for them. They will succeed the crown later and will make changes to the world and they must equip themselves with the right skills which must in line with National Education Philosophy’s vision of a balanced education as its foundation for individual student aspirations. It emphasises the balance between both knowledge and skills as well as ethics and morality. Those aspirations are built based on six attributes: ethics and spirituality, leadership skills, national identity, language proficiency, thinking skills, and knowledge.

These attributes can be honed through volunteerism and towards sustainability, volunteer management has been shifted to a culture of volunteer engagement and with that, the establishment of Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS) or Student Volunteers Foundation was established to deliver students who are competitive and holistic in global challenges. And YSS-ASEAN Students Volunteer Leader to Sarawak, Malaysia 2018 is a turning point to YSS to create more volunteer leaders internationally after been endorsed from ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) Secretariat and China as one of ASEAN dialogue partner. As an YSS Alumni, I alway moved by Dato’ Zuraidah Atan speaches on how YSS initiate of capacity building and in producing leaders because leaders are created not born and yet looked upon the internationalisation and global engagement.

MH2712 flight flown from Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KUL) to Sibu Airport (SWA) at ETA 8.20 am brought 40 ASEAN volunteer leaders from Kampung Maludam and Kampung Beladin, before taking two (2) Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) bus to Pejabat Daerah Kecil Maludam (Maludam Small District Office) for the celebration of Gawai Raya for the student volunteers and the local community which inaugurated by YB Dato’ Sri Hjh Rohani Hj Abd Karim. The volunteers were celebrated with traditional dance from different ethnicity in Sarawak and then the volunteers are been send to their host family. After them celebration come to and end, all of us were served with different type of delicious food.
