The Full Story

Picture this: a vibrant hall buzzing with energy and excitement, filled with 150 passionate youths who have dedicated their efforts to advancing excellence and making a difference. For once, these individuals collectively set aside their differences to be present for a greater cause — one dedicated to uplifting unity and driving change for a better tomorrow.

To strengthen this notion, Yayasan Sukarelawan Siswa (YSS), under the auspices of the Ministry of National Unity, brought together 150 of its student volunteer alumni for a three-day programme from 20 to 22 December 2024 in Kuala Lumpur — the Volunteer Leadership Development Programme (VLDP) 2024, closing out the year’s volunteering excellence. Centred on the theme “Fostering a Sustainable YSS Alumni Volunteering Ecosystem”, YSS believes that future-proof volunteering triumphs are no longer built on individualistic initiatives, but on substantive capacity-building and networking that connects like-minded individuals to carry the flag forward.

To keep participants engaged and motivated, a series of interactive workshops on human capital development covered leadership skills, communication and social entrepreneurship. The YSS Alumni Appreciation Night, the pinnacle of the programme, celebrated the achievement of 150 YSS student volunteer alumni through their appointment as National Unity Agents — recognising their valour and dedication to driving social change.

The Honourable Tan Sri Dato’ Haji Alimudin Mohd Dom, YSS Chairman, said in his address that collective contributions from Malaysian youths are integral to nation-building, paving the way for more proactive measures that hold youth accountable for community progress and future leadership. Through VLDP’s extensive alumni network and comprehensive training modules, YSS sets the path for future development in Malaysia’s lifelong youth volunteering framework, in line with its aspiration to become one of the leading global volunteering hubs in Asia.
